CHARACTERS - YOU CAN NEVER BE UP TO THEM!

REMEMBER

  1. Humans do things because they believe it's the best thing to do in this moment. Or because they believe it's the only option they have in this moment.

To make a character believable, you must be clear, in your own head, what motivates them. Past history? Their aim in life? Their aim in this scene?

WORKING IT OUT
WORKING IT OUT
  1. Being clear about your character's history and aims dictates how you write about them,

How you describe them

What dialogue you give them

How others respond to them

How they respond to others.

  1. Now, instead of having characters doing stuff just to suit the plot you can aas yourself "How would x get to this point?. What would push X to do this? To say that?

  2. You don't have to include all the details of the character's back-story in the play. Just the bits relevant to the plot. Because of how you write X, X's behaviour will make sense to the audience.

I GOT AN IDEA...wheeee!
